October 2 is International Cerebral Palsy Day. In Russia, this affliction is called CP in the old fashioned way. Conditionally healthy people are often too rushed to assess the abilities and capabilities of patients with cerebral palsy. Many myths and conjectures make it difficult to focus on the main thing: all people have the right to develop, study and heal, regardless of the type and severity of the disease. Our new beneficiaries unwittingly learnt this problem up and down. Here is their story.
The only son of Irina and Yuriy - Denis, has cerebral palsy . Now he is already 17. The boy was born at the 32nd week, weighed only 2230 grams. Hypoxic-ischemic damage to the central nervous system and prematurity of the 2nd degree did not bode well. They were discharged only on the 14th day. When Denis was just 3 months, strabismus and epileptic seizures appeared - the baby was crying, his parents began to sound the alarm. By the age of one, the convulsive seizures were stopped - they picked up the drug, but after a while the epilepsy returned. Then they found an effective remedy again, but history repeats itself over and over again. Already 13 times. The main and concomitant diagnosis hardly fits into eleven lines: Denis does not walk on his own, does not sit without support, almost does not speak, the teenager's eyesight falls and scoliosis progresses, mental and speech development delay. The brain damage will never disappear, but it will not become stronger either, you just need to develop what you get.
Denis is a smiling, good-natured guy, he willingly studies and can become more independent - you just need to work systematically, strengthen muscles, try again and again to master and control movements. Of course, it is almost impossible to do this without help of specialists and rehabilitation courses. This fee will pay for the next comprehensive program at the Healthcare Childhood Medical Center. In addition, a special corset is vital and will be purchased. It will help stop scoliosis - the ribs have already begun to put pressure on our ward's lungs ... The third item of expenses is the purchase of a special apparatus for independent walking, this is a kind of exoskeleton for the legs and lower back. Denis weighs 60 kilograms and his mother can hardly cope with him anymore ... And the young man does not want to ride a wheelchair all his life. This guy from Kumertau is eating away at a serious illness, but doesn't he have the right to his little happiness? Happiness is to help your parents, happiness is to do something independently, on your own. Something simple, small, but different.
